A FITNESS trend sweeping America has landed on English soil – Knutsford to be exact.

Knutsford personal trainer Beverley Laird’s BarreConcept classes have taken off since she began teaching at the Tatton Room in Curzon three weeks ago.

The fitness class, which is still in its infancy in the UK, takes aspects of Pilates, yoga and sports conditioning and combines them with positions, moves and the technique of ballet.

Beverley, who has worked in the fitness industry for six years, said: “I am used to working one on one with clients but I was drawn to this. It’s a very elegant workout but you can still really feel the burn.”

The workout is different to the typical high-impact aerobics class. Based on the Lotte Berk Method of the 40s, the workout is low-impact and designed to stretch and sculpt the muscles whilst burning fat.

The adaptability of the workout has proved popular with Knutsfordians so far and demand is growing.

New mum Jenny Polvani has been attending twice weekly with her nine-week-old daughter in tow.

“It’s so elegant, I love it. Beverley can adapt the class to suit postnatal women which has been very helpful for me,” she said.

Fellow class member Mary Jay said she signed up for its toning qualities.

She added: “I feel more energised mentally and I can concentrate a bit more after I’ve done a class.”

Beverley, whose motto is ‘burning means firming’, currently runs two classes but is expanding her timetable with some additional classes in the pipeline.

The classes take place at the Tatton Room, to the rear of the Curzon, on Wednesdays, 6.30-7.30pm, and Fridays, 9.30-10.30am. A try-out session costs £7 and each course lasts a term.
