BURNLEY firm VEKA said it was proud to support MP Gordon Birtwistle’s Prostate Scanner Appeal at the Clarets recent match against Sheffield Wednesday.

The company, which manufactures UPVC windows and doors, sponsored t-shirts to raise awareness of the appeal.

The distinctive blue t-shirts were worn by the players while they warmed up and were also worn by volunteers who did a bucket collection during the match.

Gabriela Hammond, VEKA’s head of human resources, said: “The t-shirts were a great way to let people know what the collection was for.

“It made the volunteers easy to spot and, as a result, we've been told that a fantastic £4,341 was raised on the day.

“As a company, we were delighted to show our support and raise awareness for such a valuable local cause.”
