A BAKERY in Haslingden is in the running to be crowned the best in Britain after being selected as a regional finalist on a television competition.
Cissy Greens in Deardengate beat Elizabeth May of Chorley and Lilibets of Paris, from Southport, in the Lancashire and Merseyside round of Britain’s Best Bakery.
Traditional bakers Nick Warburton and Barry Haworth produced the best olive bread, a highly-praised bakery speciality offering for their meat pies, and an acclaimed baker’s dozen for the ITV show on Monday.
Cake connoisseur and presenter Mich Turner called the pair’s competition entries ‘innovative and creative’ and described them as ‘all round good bakers’.
While the mother-daughter team, Susan and Margaret, of Elizabeth May’s, chocolate mud pie was deemed ‘too sweet’, presenter Peter Sidwell said of Cissy Greens’ meat pies: “I can see why people travel for these.
“The beef is wonderfully succulent, well-seasoned and perfectly cooked.
“You’ve obviously gone to such lengths to make sure they are the best they can be.”
