Bid to aid disabled who face moving in Pendle

Lancashire Telegraph: Coun Joe Cooney Coun Joe Cooney

PROPOSED changes to the Disabled Facilities Grants programme will be discussed at Pendle Council’s executive meeting this Thursday.

They will consider whether to introduce a relocation grant of up to £3,000 to help people financially who need to move home because their property isn’t suitable for adaptation.

They’ll also discuss the feasibility of being able to claim back up to £10,000 from grant recipients where a property is sold within 10 years of being adapted.

Coun Joe Cooney, Pendle Council’s leader and executive member for housing and regeneration, said: “We haven’t previously been able to help people financially with house moving costs as this type of assistance falls outside the scope of a Disabled Facilities Grant.

“But we have recognised that this needs to change, which is why we’re putting forward this proposal.

“But we are also in a situation where there’s an ever-increasing demand for Disabled Facility Grants and the demand far outweighs what we have available.”
