Burnley busking duo on charity EU tour
10:27am Monday 13th January 2014 in News
A BARMAN whose only previous holiday abroad was on a school trip, is set to hitchhike on a charity tour around Europe.
Martyn Green, 29, hopes to visit 10 countries in four months armed only with his guitar and his best pal, Alastair Cameron.
The duo will set off from Burnley next Monday and hope to raise £2,000 for children’s charity UNICEF with their Busk or Bust adventure.
Mr Green, a former student at Barden High School, and Nelson and Colne College, worked his final shift after 11 years at The Prairie pub, off Colne Road, Burnley, last Friday.
The pair recently graduated in performing arts at the University of Cumbria and decided to take up the charity challenge before applying for jobs upon their return.
Mr Green said: “We’re both into music and decided to do it with as little money as possible.
“We’re travelling down to London and hope to go to France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
“We’ve both got guitars and Alastair’s got a ukulele. We’ve written our own tour song called Keep On Singing which we’re going to play everywhere we go.
“I was slightly anxious about it but I’m more excited about seeing the different cultures. Hopefully the kindness of strangers will shine through.”
Mr Green, from the Queensgate area of Burnley, and Mr Cameron, from Blackpool, said they chose to raise funds for UNICEF as it was a well-known international organisation.
