A THERAPEUTIC horticulture project aimed at vulnerable Pendle residents is set to be launched.

Pendle Leisure Trust received £350,000 in Lottery funding to run the Good Life scheme, which will be unveiled with an open day next Wednesday (January 15).

The launch event will be a chance for potential participants, residents, referral agencies, local organisations, councillors and anyone else interested to go along, have a look around the site and find out all about the project.

Joanne Dootson, project co-ordinator, said the project will benefit people who are not able to get out very often.

“I am really looking forward to working with people who have been stuck in the house and not been able to get out and to build their confidence so they are ready to go out and take part in other community schemes and courses," she said.

The Good Life project is funded by the Big Lottery – Reaching Communities Programme.

Its main aim is to get people out of the house and in to a safe and non-judgemental environment, while benefiting from being out in the fresh air, being close to nature and learning new skills.

Activities take place in a quiet and peaceful setting at Hodge House allotments, off Reedyford Road in Nelson and include growing fruit, vegetables and flowers, wood-working, art activities and general gardening.

People can visit the allotments between noon and 3pm next Wednesday to see what the scheme has to offer.
