NEIGHBOURS are set to go into battle with publicans after ‘loud’ music by Status Quo, The Under-tones and Coldplay blasted out of a Helmshore venue.

Residents living near The Station, in Helmshore Road, say they have had enough of late-night disturbance following an outdoor music festival, two years ago, and various live bands perf-orming there since.

Now a review has been ordered by Rossendale Council and the pub’s designated licence holder, Nicola Barcroft, has been asked to defend their record.

Council papers show that the first complaints relating to the premises emerged in August 2011 when an outdoor festival took place at The Station.

But since last May seven separate residents complained and were asked to keep logs of the alleged problem by the borough council’s environmental health department.

Another one-day festival in August prompted fresh concerns.

And recordings taken from a nearby property, on a date in September, indicated that music levels constituted a statutory nuisance.

Environmental health officer Carmela Lo Presti, in the review report, said: “As I arrived at Limewood Close I could hear loud music coming from The Station pub.

“As I got out of my car it sounded like a live band and they were playing ‘Whatever You Want’ by Status Quo.” Council officials served a statutory noise nuisance order on Ms Barcroft on September 19.

But when another environmental health officer, Paul Thwaites, visited nine days later he could clearly hear tracks including Coldplay’s ‘Rule The World’ and ‘Ride Sally Ride’ from a neighbouring house.

Though a further meeting took place between licensing officers and the pub licensee, and noise limiting equipment was installed, further complaints were recor-ded in November and December.

The review is expected to be heard early next year.
