MEMBERS of a Rossendale residents’ group have expressed delight after their allotment project was given planning permission by Rossendale Council.

The news was celebrated at a meeting of Limey Valley Residents’ Association in Loveclough last week.

Secretary Darryl Nugent said: “The meeting was delighted to learn that a scheme which has been so long in the making had finally been approved.

“The whole project shows what can be achieved – even when times are hard – when local residents, councillors and council officers work together towards a shared objective. Now the really hard work can begin.”

Councillors Peter Roberts and Granville Morris had quizzed Mr Nugent about parking at the Badgercote site, off Burnley Road.

Mr Nugent, however, said the impact of traffic would be ‘negligible’ as 25 of the 28 allotments had been assigned to residents who expected to need only pedestrian access to their plots.

Rossendale Council’s development control committee voted unanimously in favour of the scheme.

The plots will also have sheds and greenhouses, a communal building and a composting toilet.
