EXTRA help is being offered to house-holders in Todmorden and Cornholme who may still be susceptible to flooding.

Sudden deluges of water have left properties in the Upper Calder Valley awash on numerous occasions over the past two years.

And as part of a new Calderdale Council project, residents are being encouraged to develop their own flood plans.

Severe flash floods affected hundreds of homes and busin-esses in Todmorden and surrounding areas in June 2012.

Coun Barry Collins, the council’s environment cabinet member, said: “This is an opportunity for residents to access support to limit the risk of flooding to their homes and damage to their property.”

The Environment Agency has been undertaking a multi-million flood alleviation scheme over the past two years, which has seen a series of flood defence walls in and around Todmorden town centre and repairs to culverts underneath Shade School and Rochdale Road.

Householders can now have their properties surveyed by council housing officers and see a report produced.
