CHRISTMAS shoppers in Burnley will be given important safety messages when in the run-up to the festive season.

Representatives from Burnley Council, Lancashire Police and other organisations will be in the town centre this Saturday, from 11am to 3pm, and from 2pm to 6pm on December 20.

A council trailer will be on the pedestrianised area in St James’s Lane, staffed by officers who will advise homeowners on how to avoid being a victim of Christmas crime.

Councillor Tony Harrison, the council’s executive member for community services, said: “We’re not trying to spoil the festive spirit or worry people but it’s worth repeating some common sense messages ahead of the festive season.

“Opportunist thieves often break into cars and homes at this time of year to steal items left in plain sight.”
