BURNLEY fans have been doing a lot of celebrating so far this season — and they could soon have their very own beer to toast their table-topping side with.

The Clarets Trust is in discussions with a small local brewery over plans to release its own Turf Moor-themed beer in the New Year.

The brew would be released in cask form at first and then bottles at a later stage. The trust hopes it will be stocked locally.

Peter Pike, chairman of the Clarets Trust, said: “We have been talking about it on and off for a while but we have now met with a local brewer who is keen on the idea.

“A few other supporters’ trusts have launched their own beer. Bury have done it quite successfully, and the aim is for it to make a profit for the trust long-term.

“We have a few CAMRA members on the trust. They know more about beer than me, and they think it could be popular.”

The trust is now seeking a name for its beer, and suggestions so far include Turf Bitter, Clarets Trust Ale, and McIlroy Magic.

Mr Pike said: “We want something simple as a name.

“It is going to be themed around Turf Moor. The labels will probably have a picture of the Turf on them. We’re open to suggestions from members on names for it.

“We need to find local outlets that will stock the beer but we think that is going to be possible and hopefully we can get it out in the New Year.

“It is cheaper to launch it as a cask beer at first. We would like to bring it out in bottle form but it requires a bigger up-front investment, which we don’t have at the moment.

“But we would welcome any donations that help us bring out a bottled version.”
