Padiham knifeman threatened friend with six-inch blade
3:41pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
A PADIHAM knifeman who attacked his friend and held a six inch blade at his throat has been spared jail.
Craig Wilkinson, 29, had had at least 10 pints of lager and was very drunk when he punched Mark Goodwin in a row and went home and armed himself with the weapon. He then hit his friend again, knocked him to the ground and produced the knife in the street in the early hours of a Sunday morning.
Wilkinson, who has no previous convictions, was given a chance by a judge, even though he told Burnley Crown Court: “He could have killed him.”
The hearing was told the defendant put the knife down and surrendered himself when the police arrived. He then said far more than was necessary when he was questioned and ‘incriminated himself’.
Wilkinson, a painter, of Russell Terrace, Padiham, had admitted having an article with a blade and common assault and had been committed for sentence by Pennine magistrates. He was given four months in jail, suspended for a year, with 120 hours unpaid work.
