Rossendale women are slimming champions
9:11am Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
TWO women from the Valley who lost 11 stone between them have been crowned Slimming World Rossendale’s Women of the Year.
In 12 months, Carole Rothwell shed five stone, while Fran Lennon lost more than six stone by attending sessions at Rossendale Rugby Club in Rawtenstall.
Rachel Firth, the town’s consultant for Slimming World, said the two women were an inspiration for their fellow slimmers.
She said: “They came to us suffering health problems and were really very unhappy with their size.
“They’ve worked so hard to lose the weight and have done brilliantly.
“What they’ve lost really is a huge amount of weight and it took dedication.
“Inspiration from someone you know really is a big part of losing weight and they inspire the other people in the group because they can look at what they’ve achieved and think, ‘if she can do it, maybe I can too’.
“They’ve both been a massive support to other members, giving them help and motivation, which has really helped the group.
“Neither Fran nor Carole have starved themselves to lose the weight either. Both have been having big meals and eating the same food their families do, and eating with them.
“They’ve been surprised about how much you can eat while losing weight.
“Sometimes, overweight people can be viewed as a burden on the NHS because of health problems which can arise, but these women have worked to lose the weight themselves.”
Women, men and teenagers attend the Slimming World groups on Wednesdays at 5pm and 7.30pm at the rugby club at Marl Pits in Newchurch Road. For more information, call 07734 433770.
