Bacup town centre in bid for £2m Townscape Heritage Initiative
3:46pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in News
BUILDINGS in Bacup town centre will be given major facelifts if the town is awarded £2million by the Townscape Heritage Initiative.
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, the five properties within the Pioneer Building (all in Rochdale Road), the REAL Building, and public realm improvements in St James’ Square, are at the top of the list for funding. There are 22 buildings on a ‘critical’ list, and 51 buildings being looked at in total, most of which are privately owned.
Council officers are in the process of developing a design guide for the contractor if the town scoops the funding.
David Presto, the council’s economic development manager, said: “We want to develop a high design standard.”
