FREE assistance for people who have always fancied being blacksmiths, beekeepers or lumberjacks has been announced.

The Offshoots Permaculture Project in Burnley’s Towneley Park have been given a £12,000 ‘community learning grant’ from the European Social Fund to provide training in a range of natural pursuits.

The project was visited by Prince Charles during his February 2010 visit to the town, as part of his longstanding interests in enviromental matters.

Phil Dewhurst, Offshoots manager, said that the grant would help the initiative to provide 100 free places on training courses.

He added: “There is something for everyone here at Offshoot, as well as sampling our organic fruit and vegetables, many people have found a new vocation.

“Through learning new skills, being active, connecting with others through Offshoots, we help to promote wellbeing.

“Some people have gone on to set up their own business, while others have progressed onto college or an apprenticeship.”
