Burnley man jailed for brutal assault on partner

A MAN who subjected his partner to a brutal attack after a heavy drinking session is behind bars for 14 months.

Loren Bell, 27, had downed a bottle of vodka and eight cans of medium strength lager before the early hours assault on a young mum.

Bell was verbally abusive and had then turned violent, burning the victim's cleavage, biting her inner thigh, pouring lager over her naked body as she lay on the floor and punching her repeatedly in the face.

He then placed his hands around the victim's neck and prevented her from escaping as she tried to get away. He had also smashed her mobile phone, Burnley Crown Court heard.

The victim was finally able to return to her home and, with the help of her mother, called the police.

She was left with lumps to her head, bruises to her eye, abrasions to her shoulder and burn and bite marks.

Bell, who had no previous convictions for violence, was said to have seen the case as a wake-up call but he had previously thrown back the goodwill of the court into its face and had flouted non-custodial order after order.

Bell, of Padiham Road, Burnley, had admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and had been committed for sentence by Pennine magistrates.

Recorder Kevin Talbot slammed Bell's behaviour as “shocking” and said it was “unacceptable in civilised society”.

He said while Bellt may benefit from some help from the probation service, there was no restriction available which would stop him going out again, “drinking to this incredible excess”.

Recorder Talbot told Bell: “The risks of that happening are too great for this court to ignore. Once you have taken drink, you lose control and behave in a wholly brutal and uncivilised way.”
