Brierfield underage girl was ‘passed around for sex’

AN UNDER-AGE girl — alleged to have been passed around a group of friends at a drink and drugs den for sex — told police how she felt ‘powerless to protest’ at what was going on.

Prosecutors have told a Manchester Crown Court jury that the girl was repeatedly raped or sexually abused at a house in Sackville Street, Brierfield, by a number of men when she was aged just 13 or 14.

Mohammed Imran Amjad — known as Immy — is said to have befriended the girl when she was 12 or 13, and regularly took her to the Brierfield house, owned by his uncle, referred to as ‘Black Tony’.

Alaric Bassano, prosecuting, said one night the girl was taken into a bedroom at the house by Immy and Shiraz Afzal, who she knew as ‘Frankie’, and told she was having sex with a third man, Haroon Mahmood. Mr Bassano said she objected but they insisted and she ‘felt powerless to protest further and, in fear and shock, submitted to what followed’.

Mahmood, known as Harry, is alleged to have raped her without saying a word, the court heard.

Another occasion in 2010 allegedly saw Immy tell her to have sex with his brother, Mohammed Zishan Amjad, and she again protested.

But after Zishan Amjad raped her, Immy told the girl ‘in no uncertain terms’ that she would do whatever he told her, the court heard.

Later that year, during Eid, the girl was at the house with a friend and Immy, when he told her she should go upstairs with Mohammed Suleman Farooq, known as ‘Sully’.

She refused but Sully is alleged to have pulled her out of a chair and flung her onto a settee, where he tried to kiss her and fondled her thigh.

Mr Bassano said the girl was also raped by a man, identified only as ‘Saj’, who has never been prosecuted, also at the instigation of Immy. The court heard the men had been charged with ‘specimen offences’ covering allegations of repeated abuse during 2010.

Imran Amjad, 26, Mohammed Zishan Amjad, 25, both of Halifax Road, and Haroon Mohammed, 22, of John Street, all Brierfield, each deny charges of rape and sexual activity with a child Omar Mazafar, 22, also of Halifax Road, and Shiraz Afzal, 25, of Mansfield Crescent, Brierfield, each deny aiding or abetting rape and aiding or abetting sexual activity with a child.

And Mohammed Suleman Farooq, 23, of Berry Street, Brierfield, denies sexual assault and sexual activity with a child.

Imran Amjad also denies three charges of child abduction and aiding and abetting charges.

The trial, expected to last for several weeks, continues.
