Burnley author releases first novel

A BURNLEY author is celebrating achieving a life-time ambition after publishing his first book.

Andrew Lowe’s tale “Barry Braithwaite’s Last Life” centres round Barry, a down-and-out alcoholic who has all but given up, and reformed drunk Alfred, his unlikely saviour.

Set in an unnamed northern town, the book charts caring Alfred’s desperate, last-ditch attempts to keep Barry on the rocky road to recovery.

Andrew, 47, moved back to Burnley four years ago having lived in Spain for almost 20 years.

He said: “I wanted to deal with some of the issues that people are facing in today’s post-industrial Britain, where the ‘Nanny State’ is crumbling before our eyes.

“The book is about people taking control of their lives because from now on they are going to have to.

“The book contains a serious message, but is also humorous so not to bore or depress readers.”

Andrew, who lives in Rosegrove, is already penning future stories.

The book is now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle format.
