Padiham school roof repairs to be carried out

A FAULTY roof has forced a school to cordon off part of its grounds.

Padiham Green CE Primary School, in St Anne’s Street, has erected scaffolding to protect part of its roof after faulty tiles were discovered.

Headteacher Mark Dixon said maintenance work was scheduled to start next week.

He said: “The scaffolding has gone up as a precaution.

“We’ve had this issue before because of where we are, on this elevation with the high winds that we get blowing towards Altham and Accrington.

“It should take around a week to fix and the classroom — class five — is unaffected and will still be in use.

“Our property team have had a look at the problem and we’re going to install a lip all the way around the gutter so that in the event any tiles become loose they won’t fall to the ground.

“Risk assessments have been carried out and the children are fully aware of the cordons.”
