Rossendale Hospital intruders strike again

INTRUDERS who enter the disused Rossendale General Hospital building and post pictures on the internet have struck again.

The ‘urban explorers’, who were criticised last June after uploading pictures of themselves in the hospital’s mortuary and chapel, have detailed another visit to the Haslingden Road site on an online forum.

The hospital closed in September 2010, and developers Taylor Wimpey were given planning permission to build 139 homes there last November.

A spokesperson for East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust, which still owns the Rossendale Hospital building, said: “The Trust was not aware of any security breaches to these particular areas and we still maintain security provision on this site 24/7.

“We will be informing the police about this matter as the hospital is a private site, and if people are found to be trespassing, they will be prosecuted.”

Last month councillors called for the demolition process to be speeded up after an arson attack on the building.

What is so wrong with people documenting this beautiful building before it is smashed flat? They aren't looters or arsonists, they are people interested in local history and culture...something the council should actually be!

I agree pretty soon it will be gone forever, so I fail to see what harm they are doing taking photos?
