Former Rossendale RAF man drive while over the limit

AN ex-airman who wrote off his car while more than twice the limit, also put paid to a new job at Manchester Airport, a court was told.

Adam James Getty, 27, had crashed into a barrier and ended up wedged against a house wall, in the early hours smash in Waterfoot, on February 24.

He was found trying to hide off a forecourt, had the keys to the Renault Meganne car in his pocket and was arrested.

Burnley magistrates heard how Getty, who recently left the RAF, had been set to start a new job at the airport, but would not be able to get there and was having to claim benefits. But, at least he survived the accident, which could have cost him his life.

The defendant, of Ivy Cottages, Waterfoot, admitted driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after an accident.

The Bench chairman told him: “You could have killed somebody.”

Getty was fined £110, with a £20 victim surcharge and £75 costs and was banned from driving for 17 months.
