Common room bid for Nelson students

A TOWN centre common room in Nelson for college students could be housed in Scotland Road.

Attempts to open up a common room for students at Nelson and Colne College have been ongoing as part of the Mary Portas pilot in the town.

Judith Watmough, senior regeneration officer, said: “Discussions are ongoing regarding the feasibility of the college and other agencies running an information, advice and guidance centre from the former Young People’s Service building.

“The centre would offer support focused on people who are not in employment, education or training.

“It is also hoped this building could accommodate the young persons café/ common room which students and local young people identified they would like to see in the town centre. The venue would play their music, provide a place to work and socialise.”

A town center common room on Scotland Road for students. Well I'll be bu++erd. Good on ya Portas. Just the thing to bring shoppers back to town. The venue would play "their" music which students and local young people identified they would like to see in the town center. The council obviously do not think about rejuvenating of one of the towns main roads as paramount, rather fill it with "their" coffee bars and "their" kebab shops! Is there not enough space at the college for "them"?
