Burnley man grew drugs 'for religion'

A 43-YEAR-OLD man caught growing cannabis at his home told police he used the drug as part of his religion.
Luigino Ronaldo Waine, of Todmorden Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to producing 72 cannabis plants.
He was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced. John Wood, prosecuting, said police attended an address in Francis Street, Blackburn, following a report of a disturbance.
The officers could smell cannabis and when they went upstairs, found a locked bedroom door behind which was a cannabis production unit. Mr Wood said: “Waine told police he cultivated cannabis for his own use and this was partly because of his religious inclinations.”
He said Waine had a conviction in 2006 for importing controlled drugs for which he was sentenced to nine years in prison.
