Rossendale MP welcomes HGV bill

A NEW law to make foreign heavy goods vehicles pay to use British roads has been welcomed by a Tory MP.

Jake Berry, who represents Rossendale and Darwen, said the HGV Road User Levy Bill, which received Royal Assent and was passed into law last month, delivered fairness for British hauliers.

Mr Berry said: “In Rossendale and Darwen we see foreign lorries on our roads all the time, but they haven’t had to pay anything to use our roads.

“But when British lorries drive abroad, they face charges and tolls. It just isn’t fair.

“This Government is righting that wrong, and, from now on, Britain will benefit from the foreign lorries on our roads.”

Roads minister Stephen Hammond said: “This new act will help the UK logistics industry remain competitive by making sure that operators from abroad are paying towards the cost of building and maintaining the UK’s roads, as well as creating a level playing field for domestic operators.”

unless the charge is £50 per hgv entrent it wont be worth collecting and should be used to bring down fuel costs for british hgv's ripped off in europe and britain. yes britain.and people wonder why food is so expensive.if fuel duty came down food prices come down its that simple.but these thick MP's dont see that.but then again if you earn £65,000 + you wont care how much food is

Long overdue hope that it extends to paying an insurance bond. Have a accident with these you have no chance claiming.

When his finished blowing his own trumpet again maybe he, or one of his chums, can get the issue raised about HGV's driving side by side for mile after mile. They think they're the only ones who make deliveries.

because they are all governed at between 52-60 mph all carry different weights if all wagons did not over take you would end up with mile after mile of hgv's on the inside lane.nothing would get off at junctions and nothing will get on.also hgv's do pay road tax and are insured unlike 15% of cars on the road.
