A SCHOOL judged to be good five years ago is now ‘outstanding’, according to Ofsted.

Three inspectors from the education watchdog visited Tonacliffe Primary School, in Tonacliffe Way, Whitworth, and described pupils’ attitudes towards learning as ‘exemplary’.

The report said: “Outstanding teaching in nursery and reception classes has enabled standards to rise rapidly.

“As a result, children are now joining Year 1 with skills and knowledge that are exceptionally high in reading and writing.”

Headteacher Joanne Heap said: “As a school we’re absolutely thrilled.

“It’s all down to teamwork between governors, staff, pupils, and parents.”
