A WOMAN who was subjected to two years of sexual abuse has waived her anonymity to encourage more victims to come forward.

Brave Tina Rogers spoke of her relief after 63-year-old sex pervert Colin Dunn was jailed for 16 years.

He had been found guilty of sexually assaulting children over a 50-year period.

The sentence came 15 years after Miss Rogers made her first statement to police about her ordeal.

When she first complained Dunn of Cedar Avenue, Haslingden, was arrested by police, but then released because of ‘insufficient evidence’. It was her word against his.

But in October 2011 he was given a 32-month sentence after confessing to attacking five and six-year-old girls he had befriended in his neighbourhood.

Then last week Burnley Crown Court heard three more of his victims had come forward leading to the Haslingden man’s lengthier conviction.

Miss Rogers, 37, said she was made to have sex against her will after being groomed by Dunn.

At Burnley Crown Court he was found guilty of seven offences of rape and two charges of indecent assault in the latest case.

The girls involved were aged between 11 and 16 at the time.

Miss Rogers, lived in Haslingden at the time of the attacks, but later moved to Preston, although she said memories of her abuse followed her.

She said: “I was bribed, I felt threatened and he told me not to tell anyone, because no one would believe me.

“It has scarred me for life. It’s ruined my marriage.

“I have nightmares and I’m on medication and take each day as it comes.

“I told people when I was 13 and feel no one believed me. People should have listened.

“When I was a little bit older, and felt able to stand on my own two feet, I did something about it and made a statement to police.

“It’s been with police for 15 years.

“I shouldn’t have had to go through that.

“Those other little children that have spoken out deserve a medal for being so brave, and so do their parents for supporting them and believing them. I can’t apologise enough to the other parents because it shouldn’t have happened.”

She said: “I endured having to have sex with him.

“I’m not ashamed. I’m proud of myself for never quitting trying to fight for justice.

“I couldn’t back down and let someone get away with it.

“I have waited a long time for justice.

“Jail is still too good for him but at least he’s off the street and can’t hurt anyone else.”

A police spokesman said: “We treat victims sensitively and will investigate allegations of abuse and when appropriate, consult with colleagues at the Crown Prosecution Service.”

He added: “If anyone either has information about sexual abuse or who has been a victim of sexual abuse, we would urge them to come forward and report their concerns to Lancashire Constabulary by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
