School in Whitworth is 'exceptional'

A WHITWORTH primary school is outstanding, according to its latest Ofsted report.

An inspection at Tonacliffe Primary School, in Tonacliffe Way, found that children made ‘outstanding progress’ by the time they were at an age to leave the school.

A report from inspectors John Dunne, Pamela Hemphill and Maureen Hints said standards had been consistently well above the national averages in English and mathematics for three consecutive years.

It said: “Teachers have very high expectations of all pupils.

“Each child is recognised as a unique individual and learning activities are exceptionally well matched to their individual needs.

“Pupils have exemplary attitudes towards learning.”

The school’s headteacher, senior staff and governors were praised for their ‘inspirational leadership’ and holding ‘all adults to account in the pursuit of these high aspirations’.
