Campervan driver taken to hospital with spinal injuries after crash at Cliviger

THE driver of a campervan was last night taken to hospital with ‘spinal injuries’ after a collision with a tractor on Long Causeway in Cliviger.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at 6.15pm after reports of someone trapped following the smash.

A woman and young girl, who were passengers in the campervan, were described as walking wounded and were also taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

The tractor driver was not injured.

Burnley Fire Station watch manager Neil Ashworth said: “We initially got call to say one person was trapped in a vehicle on Long Causeway, near the windmills, in Cliviger. When we attended, no one was trapped so we provided lighting for the ambulance crews.

“The van had collided with the front of the tractor. The windscreen came out, after hitting the tractor wheel.”

Investigations are ongoing.
