FUNDRAISER Gavin Roper has raised around £3,000 for two charities following a climb to the Mount Everest Base Camp.
Gavin, 36, from Fence, has been fundraising in memory of his dad, Bruce, who died in April 2011, and in December he tackled the most famous mountain in the world.
Bruce died after a battle with alzheimer’s and since then Gavin has raised thousands of pounds for the Alzheimer’s Society, and for Nelson Manor Care Home, where his dad was looked after. He said: “It was emotional being away for such a long time from my family and friends.
“I did the climb in his memory and I’m sure he was with me on Everest every step of the way.”
The trek took around 10 days to complete.
