Nelson man assaulted partner in row over text

A MAN attacked his then partner after she was said to have questioned him over a text from another woman, a court heard.

Ricky-Lee Benson, 28, had dived at Kelly Shone, thrown her across the bed, grabbed her by the throat and tried to apply pressure. He then smashed her mobile phone against the wall when he thought she was calling the police, Burnley magistrates were told.

The hearing was told the victim had thought the defendant had been unfaithful to her and had been questioning him before the assault, last October 22.

Benson, of Hibson Road, Nelson, admitted assault by beating and causing £50 damage. He was given a 12 month community order, with supervision and must pay a £60 victim surcharge, £85 costs and £50 compensation.
