A MAN from Todmorden is believed to be among those freed from the Algerian hostage crisis.
Dad-of-four Martin Johnson, who works as a motor engineer, was pictured on Algerian State Television last night.
He said: "I think they did a fantastic job, I was very impressed with the Algerian army. Very exciting episode. I feel sorry for anybody that's been hurt."
Algerian troops have now ended the siege at the gas facility in the Sahara desert, killing 11 Islamist militants after they killed seven hostages, Algerian state news agency APS has said.
Around 30 foreigners remain unaccounted for, the agency said.
The militants had been involved in a stand-off since Thursday trying to occupy the In Amenas desert gas facility in Southern Algeria.
On Friday, 573 Algerians and about 100 of 132 foreigners working at the plant were freed, Algerian officials said.
APS has previously said 12 Algerian and foreign workers have been killed since rescue efforts began.
The plant is jointly run by BP, Norway's Statoil and Algeria's state-owned oil company.
