A VITAL witness could hold clues to a hit and run collision in Burnley which left a mother-of-two with a broken back.

An anonymous caller to the helpline Crimestoppers left details about the incident in Laithe Street which left 49-year-old Janet Mee paralysed from the waist down.

Mrs Mee, of Palatine Square, was collecting her daughter Anneliese from Healey Wood Nursery when she was struck by a car travelling along Laithe Street from Springhill Street, on December 13, around 4pm.

PC Michael Raw, of Pennine road policing unit, said: “I want to reassure this person that they can remain anonymous.

“We just need to ask them one or two questions to clarify some of the details they provided.

“I would urge them to make contact with us, or Crimestoppers, again if they can.”

Mrs Mee is thought to have been hit by the wing mirror of a champagne-coloured car, possibly a Jaguar, which failed to stop. The driver may have been an elderly man with grey hair.

The witness is urged to call PC Raw on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
