MAJOR upgrades to two fire stations in Pendle have been confirmed by the Lancashire brigade as part of its 2013-14 budget.
Proposals are being drawn up to overhaul Nelson fire station, in Bradley Road, before the introduction of a new day crewing system.
The Pendle site will share in £1million investment, alongside the other ‘day crewing’ location identified by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service at Morecambe.
Under the initiative an accommodation block will be constructed so firefighters can remain on-site during extended shifts.
Further plans have also been confirmed to provide a new lease of life for the Wellhouse Road station in Barnoldswick.
County fire officials have been examining which of their bases has the most significant maintenance backlog, and Barnoldswick, along with Carnforth and Preston, have been earmarked for improvement.
The Barnoldswick station should benefit from a £100,000 overhaul this year.
