EYEWITNESSES are being sought after a reveller was headbutted in a Burnley nightclub – and ‘Superman’ had to hold the attacker back.

CCTV footage has been issued after violence broke out at The Mix Bar in St James Row on ‘Mad Friday’, December 21, at about 11.45pm.

The 40-year-old victim was standing outside on the terrace having a cigarette when he started a conversation with two men.

But police said that without warning one of the pair headbutted him before friends managed to pull him away.

Town centre officers say the attacker’s group would have been fairly distinctive as one of the attacker’s friends was dressed as Superman.

Following the incident, the victim was left with swelling and bruising to his nose, according to Burnley police, who have launched a witness appeal.

PC Carla Martin, from Burnley Police, said: “The CCTV footage shows numerous people stood on the balcony at the time of the incident so I would appeal for any witnesses to the attack or for the man himself to come forward.

“The offender was out with a group of people, one of whom was dressed up as Superman wearing a red cape so the group was distinctive.

“If you were out on the Friday before Christmas and recognise the man in the CCTV or have any information that could assist with our investigation please call Lancashire Police on 101.”

The atacker is said to have been white with short dark hair and was wearing dark trousers and a white t-shirt at the time.

Witnesses can also contact Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
