MID-ROSSENDALE Credit Union is offering to help people keep their new year resolutions and stay out of debt.
Manager Michele Tarrant said more Valley residents were signing up as they were fed up with ‘faceless’ online lenders.
The message came after Rossendale Citizens’ Advice Bureau revelealed it had dealt with more than £13million of debt in 2011/12.
Grandmother Shelia Lynch, 56, from Edgeside, said the credit union was ‘worth its weight in gold’.
She said: “I save up in the Christmas Club, as do my daughters, and it makes it easier to afford Christmas when it comes “And, if I need a bit extra, the loans are at reasonable interest rates.”
The credit union, one of three in the borough, granted 328 loans, worth £230,000, in 2011/12.
