Anti-nuclear protesters to gather in Colne

EAST LANCASHIRE Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament will hold its AGM in Colne on Friday.

The non-violent protest group, which calls for nuclear weapons to be banned, meets at the Colne Open Door Centre in Great George Street from 7pm.

Secretary Joan West said the group’s priority continues to be the scrapping of the Trident programme.

She said: “Millions are being unnecessarily spent on these weapons of mass destruction at a time when austerity measures are biting hard.”

Also on the agenda will be details of the group’s programme of events for 2013, including the commemoration of the Chernobyl disaster in April, and setting up an information stall at the May Day Rally in Burnley.

A lot of sheeple don't understand about nuclear technology either as a power source or as a weapon. It can be quite a challenge helping some to understand just how damaging nuclear technology can be to our already messed up planet.

From the look of some of the locals, it seems likely that they've been testing nukes in Colne for a while now.

I'm so pleased they are a non-violent protest group.... I was worried!!

Meeting at 7pm on Friday evening in the middle of Colne...... Maybe I should be worried.... The left wing never behave!

The ownership and threat of nuclear warheads has also prevented may wars from even occurring though. China and Russia can now never invade the west helping save hundreds of thousands of lives and a war that would have lasted many years. The days of the great wars are now over for developed countries. The threat now comes from terrorism and the hope that nuclear warheads can be kept from their hands.
