HUNDREDS of Clarets fans are set to be warm and cosy this Christmas after Burnley FC ‘onesies’ flew off the shelves in record time.

The all-in-one romper style sleepsuits, in the perfect shade of Claret and replete with Burnley FC crest, have been a surprise hit with fans, with the entire stock of 250 selling out within days at the Turf Moor club shop.

And many fans are expected to open their Christmas presents on Tuesday to find they are more at 'onesie' with their beloved club than they thought.

Retail manager for the club, Tom Mackie said that he had been stunned by the demand for the garments.

He said: “I had already ordered some in adult sizes when I heard something on the radio that Newcastle United were selling them.

“I tweeted that we were getting some in with a picture and got a massive response.

“We started selling them on October 25 and had sold them all by November 5.

“I tried to get some more, including kids sizes and they came in on December 3 and again they were all sold within four days.

“They’ve been a hit with men, women and children.

“I’ve not seen anyone wearing them at a home match but you never know.”

The Clarets are ahead of their local rivals in stocking the quirky garments at the club shop.

Rivals Blackburn Rovers do not stock them and neither do Premier League giants Liverpool, Everton and the two Manchester clubs.

However Newcastle United are suffering similar supply problems, with all their onesies also snapped up by eager fans.

Tom added as there was an order time of 12 weeks the next batch of onesies, which are priced £29.99, would not be on sale until the end of January.

“We’re hoping to get some more fleece ones in then and I’m also planning to get some more lightweight spring and summer style onesies in later. They’re definitely a big seller,” he said.
