Woman seriously injured after Rossendale road accident

A WOMAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road accident this morning near Whitworth.

Market Street remains closed in both directions after the pedestrian was hit by a Toyota Corolla at around 7.10am this morning.

Two crews from the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene. A spokesperson said a woman in her late 40s-to-early 50s had been taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with ‘very serious’ head and arm injuries.

She was found lying in the road after being struck near Oak Street in Shawforth.

Lancashire Police remain at the scene.

Not sure what it's going to take for a speed camera to be put on this stretch of road. This is the forth accident this year. This could have been avoided.

Sadly the cameras won't deter the joy riders.

Wishing the lady a full and speedy recovery.

lets hope its not too speedy or the camera you have suggested may catch her recovery.....but on a serious note, there are currently 6 speed cameras along the length of this road, how many of these government cash machines do you want? and how exactly do you think that a machine would have prevented the accident, would it have moved into the road and blasted out STOP through a tannoy system? and just as a side note, how was the accident caused, as there is no indication of this in the report, was it due to ice, as i am not one to take it for granted that it was down to speed.
Such a tragic incident and at such a bad time of the year too, hopes and well wished to the victim.

I think the more scarey part of this story is that the lady was taken to Royal Blackburn hospital!! Rochdale infirmary is less than 5 miles away, but has been closed for A&E. Disgusting that an accident victim is driven around 25 miles to an A&E department.

I agree, I know that the NHS response will be that the treatment starts in the ambulance so there is no delay in treatment but no thought is given to the family of the patient who has to travel so far to see their family and friends. I hope this lady makes a full recovery and my thoughts are with her family.
