AN OUT-of-control quad bike ploughed into two pedestrians as they walked on a pavement along a busy road.
A 56-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when the driver of the off-road vehicle is understood to have careered into the pair in Manchester Road, Nelson.
A 23-year-old man from Burnley, who is believed to be the rider of the quad bike, has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and aggravated vehicle taking and was last night being questioned in police custody.
The driver is understood to have fled the scene suffering minor injuries, later handing himself into police at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
A police spokesman said: “A 23-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and aggravated vehicle taking and is currently in custody.”
