AN inquest has been opened into the death of a Burnley man found dead at a house last week.

Brendan Lally, 51, of Springfield Bank, was pronounced dead at 11.59pm on Wednesday, October 31, at an address on Reed Street.

He was found unconscious by a neighbour who alerted police.

A post mortem examination resulted in a cause of death being given as head and neck injuries.

Further toxicology and histology tests have been requested.

A police investigation continues into the matter with police saying the death remains “unexplained”.

A 49-year-old woman and 42-year-old man, both from the Burnley area, arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released on police bail until tomorrow.

Three other people, a 20-year-old woman and two men aged 45 and 48, were also questioned in connection with the incident but have been released without charge.

Officers found Mr Lally at the bottom of a flight of stairs and despite the efforts of police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor adjourned the inquest until a later date.
