Shaun Corey
A WOMAN who killed her boyfriend and kept his body in a wheelie bin for more than a week broke down in court yesterday as she told how she just wanted to ‘shut him up’.
Karen Otmani, 42, admitted smothering 42-year-old Shaun Corey, from Rossendale, with a pillow after giving him the date drug Rohypnol and tying him to the bed with her tights.
She said she was fed up of his repeated verbal abuse and sexual demands, but did not mean to kill him.
Otmani claimed Mr Corey had previously taunted her about using the same drug to film himself having sex with her while she was unconscious.
She told the Old Bailey: “I wanted him to know how it felt, how it made me feel, to be at someone’s mercy, unconscious.
“I thought if I tied him up, I would get him to listen to me. I wasn’t going to rape him because two wrongs don’t make a right, but I wanted him to know how I was feeling.”
Otmani said she put Rohypnol in his can of beer while they were both at home in Stanstead Road, Forest Hill, south London, on June 4 last year. She then backed out and tried to hide the can, but he found it in the ‘empties’ and drank it, jurors were told.
At around 5am he woke up and started threatening her, Otmani claimed.
Otmani said she asked her friend Bernard Beddoe, 60, to come round to try to calm Mr Corey down without success.
“Shaun was so mean and horrible I just couldn’t take it any more,” she said.
“I wanted to shut him up and I did. I shut him up all right, but I didn’t mean to.
“I took a pillow and put it over his head. I don’t know if he struggled, I just wanted him to stop shouting and I killed him instead. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I really loved him.”
Otmani then broke down in the witness box before being taken back to the dock.
Earlier she told the court she ‘idolised’ Mr Corey after they met in 2007. Otmani said they had a good relationship at first, but he tried to control what she did.
“I would get texts saying what we would be doing on Saturday, what I was going to wear, how I was going to behave,” she told the court.
He would also come home with pornographic movies that he wanted them to act out, jurors heard.
“Shaun used to buy me nice lingerie and uniforms and he wanted me to act like I was a police officer” she said. “He got me a chambermaid. He wanted me bending over cleaning, pol-ishing the floor, watching me. It just got too much.”
Mr Corey also got her to sign up to the dating website Plenty ofFish so they could have a three- some with another woman.
Otmani met Keith Jones thr-ough the site and had sex with him, but did not film it, the court heard. She admitted telling Mr Jones about wanting to give Mr Corey Rohypnol.
Asked if she talked about wanting to kill Mr Corey, she replied: “No absolutely not. I loved Shaun.”
Otmani, of Forest Hill, and Bernard Beddoe, of Brockley, both deny murder. Beddoe further denies assisting Otmani to hide the body.
The trial continues.
