Burnley flood defence works under way

WORK has begun on a major flood prevention scheme which should benefit 730 homes in the Fulledge area of Burnley.

Contractors from Cheetham Hill Construction have started to build new embankments at Fulledge Recreation Ground, from Mitella Street to Olympia Street.

Environment Agency bosses say it should not be higher than existing flood defences and pedestrian ramps will be provided so access to the ‘rec’ is maintained.

Other complementary work is also set to take place for the flood storage basin around Unity College, in Towneley Park. The projects are expected to take two months to complete.”

Would this be the Fulledge area that the Labour Party and the then Labour run Lancashire County Council said is not a flood plain when they bulldozed through the new school at Towneley? How convenient, or has it only started to flood since the new school was built? Well all that flood water from lower Towneley has to go somewhere.
