A HASLINGDEN High School student who reviewed a book by author Chris Higgins became a character in her next novel.
Fifteen-year-old Austen Lowe was discussing the Lancashire Book of the Year at County Hall, Preston.
The Year 11 student said: “We got more than 100 books to read and we had to pick our best eight.
“Chris Higgins book Tapas and Tears was one of the ones to review. After I had spoken about it she came up to me and explained she had been asked by her publisher’s Puffin to write a book for younger children aged eight to 12 and she said she was going to include me as a character.”
Austen now has a copy of The Secrets Club Alice In The Spotlight and inside is a character named Austen who attends a comprehensive school while his primary school friend Alice gets a place at the local grammar school.
“Her description of me as geeky was quite good and I thought quite accurate,” he said.
