PLANS by a village pub in Burnley to open until 3am have provoked a storm of protest from neighbours.

Currently the Crooked Billet, Smith Street, Worsthorne, opens until 12.30am Thursdays to Saturdays, and 11.30pm for the rest of the week.

But bosses of pub owners Punch Taverns have lodged an application with Burnley Council to overhaul the hostelry's hours.

The firm wants to open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, and midnight from Mondays to Thursdays.

But the borough council has received 22 letters from villagers, objecting to the proposals, claiming it would be unsuitable for Worsthorne.

The proposals for the extended opening hours will be debated by the council's licensing sub-committee at Burnley Town Hall next Tuesday at 2pm.

Don't know what the problem is. A certain landlord of the nearby Bay Horse in recent memory used to be "open all hours" and no complaints. Interesting to see the council taking notice of a postal vote. Village opinion is that the previous postal vote mostly went to the shredder.
