A FIRE at a Burnley house smouldered slowly before becoming a huge blaze, firefighters said.
Crews were called to Townfield Avenue just before 4.30am, where flames were coming from the roof of the house.
Burnley Fire Station's Watch Manager Alan Ashworth said the blaze would have started burning slowly, but quickly spread through the house after cracking windows released more air.
He said: "We are treating the fire as accidental at the moment - the owners were staying with relatives while work was being done to the house.
"The kitchen is almost totally destroyed, and the rest of the house is badly smoke-damaged."
