FORMER Emmerdale star Lisa Riley visited a Burnley nursing home.

Bubbly Lisa, who played soap lovers’ favourite Mandy Dingle, visited residents at Dove Court Nursing Home, Shuttleworth Street, following a family get-together in the town.

Lisa, who is preparing to perform in panto this Christmas, is the second cousin of the home’s manager Ellen Pepper.

The star enjoyed homemade cakes and cups of tea as she laughed and giggled with the staff and residents.

Dove Court Nursing Home Manager Ellen Pepper said: “The residents were really excited that they were getting a visit from someone off the TV.

"Lisa was a hit and the residents made her promise to visit again.”

In a separate celebration, Margaret Walker also enjoyed a VIP visit on Friday to mark her 100th birthday.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Councillor Anthony Lambert and his wife Brenda joined the former mill worker for a champagne toast and cake.

Mrs Walker who has lived in Burnley for 98 years, lives in Old Hall Square, Worsthorne.

After opening her cards from her friends, the Queen and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith, she enjoyed a firework display.

Close friend and neighbour of 40 years, Pauline Atkinson said: “Margaret is a very special lady with a great sense of humour.

"She is very determined and up until very recently could often be seen pottering around Worsthorne."

Mrs Walker asked for donations to the Carers Voluntary Services Youth Service instead of presents.
