A BLAZE tore through sheds at allotments in Worsthorne and sparked explosion fears yesterday.
Fire investigations believe the fire, in Gorple Road at around 2.30pm on Saturday, could have been arson.
Onlookers were moved away from the scene after fire crews feared gas cylinders kept in one of the sheds could explode.
Seven fire engines and crews attended the incident.
Mark Woodward, watch manager at Burnley fire station, said: “We could see plumes of smoke as we approached the fire and it was well alight when we arrived.
“We were told there was gas cylinders involved as we arrived so we created a hazard area to deal with the fire and move people back to a safe distance.
“The sheds have completely burnt down.
“Ourselves and the police are investigating the cause of the fire now, arson is a possibility.”
