Major Lancashire drugs gang smashed

POLICE have notched up a major victory in the battle against drugs after smashing a huge cannabis and cocaine ring.

Detective Inspector Simon Brooksbank, who led a 12-month undercover operation into the gang, said the county was now a ‘safer place’.

More than 100 officers took part in the investigation, which saw drugs worth around half a million pounds and £96,000 in cash seized.

Twelve members of the gang, led by Richard Wynn, of Ravenoak Lane, Worsthorne, pleaded guilty to offences including conspiracy to supply drugs and money laundering.

Two other people were found guilty after trials at Preston Crown Court.

Wynn, 34, described by judge Norman Wright as the ‘Mr Big’, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply a class A drug, conspiracy to supply cann-abis and money laundering.

His dad Shaun Wynn, 54, admitted a charge of assisting an offender.

Andrew Donachie, 50, of Taylor Street, Rawtenstall, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cannabis and money laundering.

Mr Brooksbank, of the Organised and Serious Crime Unit, said: “Lancashire is a safer place now Wynn and his criminal associates are off the streets and drugs won’t be as readily available as they were before his incarcer-ation.

"This is massively important for the people of Lancashire.”

Police and the Inland Revenue are now preparing a ‘thorough financial investigation’ into the Wynn family business, Northern Transits, in Rishton.

Police began monitoring Wynn, 34, in 2008 and bugged his BMW M3 to record his phone calls.

They heard Wynn talking about cash and drugs. Around £50,000 was seized from a Ford Ka connected to the gang and £5,000 from a Vauxhall Vivaro van.

Cocaine worth £238,000 and cannabis resin worth £115,000 were also seized on another occasion.

Police said Wynn, who lived in a £250,000 house with his wife and two children, had never declared any income, yet drove round in a BMW and spent thousands on holidays.

Carl Wrend, 29, of Leigh, Darren Brennand, 44, of Lancaster, Mark Midgley, 35, of Lytham, and Adam Sotheron, 26, of Salford, all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cannabis.

Paul Shiel, 40, of Westhoughton, pleaded guilty to supply cannabis and possession of a class C drug with intent to supply.

Garry Waring, 41, of Leyland, pleaded guilty to supply a class A drug and money laundering.

Bledar Bajraktari, 28, of London, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply a class A drug.

Andrew Thornton, 22, of Bolton, pleaded guilty to possession of a class B drug with intent to supply.

Another man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cannabis and money laundering.

Stephen James, 44, of Hebden Bridge, was found guilty of conspiracy to supply cannabis and money laundering, and Scott Taylor, 38, of Preston, was found guilty of conspiracy to supply a class A drug.

Neil Davies, 29, of Bolton, was found not guilty of conspiracy to supply cannabis.

A date for sentencing has not been set.

"He was living a fairly comfortable lifestyle, in a detached property of substantial value in the Worsthorne area. He had a nice lifestyle, was driving round in nice cars, BMW M3, Range Rovers, VW Touareg, so for someone who had no legitimate earnings he had a very good standard of living."

Next time you wonder how that certain somebody has all the trappings of success yet seems to do very little in life, herein probably lies the answer! I'm sure we all wonder on a fairly regular basis ...

Excellent result, just make sure that all the criminals' assetts are also taken away from them & that they receive long sentences. They need to be taught, if you don't work & earn legitimate money then the Police WILL confiscate it!!!

So, now that the penny has finally dropped with the Police, that people with no declared incomes driving around in flash motors equals substantial criminal activity to fund them, I am looking forward to the arrests and convictions of the seemingly unemployed who drive around Nelson in BMW X5s, Range Rover Sports and the like. Though as ever, I will not be holding my breath.

Just want to add my thanks! Well done to everyone concerned for doing a fine job. This is what we need and hope your efforts can continue and wish that the sentences could be as severe as the crime itself. Pity it can’t be because these scum bags can kill with what they supply and spoil lives forever as those who have been effected by serious addictive drugs will know.
It’s an evil trade, just hope they get what they deserve and more of the same please. They all want putting down!

Of course, the legalised stuff is killing far more people and yet the government are only just doing something about it.
I know a good few cannabis users and it's factual that cannabis users do not go out killing and maiming people, they cant be bothered. Its what makes this originally natural drug a semi disruption on society due to making people lethargic and therefore many users get on a slow slope to doing very little.
The government adviser who said that cannabis should not be banned and that its effects had been extreamly over estimated was promptly sacked for not supporting the governments ideals.
Thats scary when you consider fluoridation etc which many top scientists including those with nobel prizes state is very dangerous as any government advisers must support the government or be sacked.
If the government concentrated on chemical drugs that are killing people (including cigarettes and alcohol which they profit massively from) and less on cannabis, things might be in a better state.
And now we have codex alimentarius which bans the use of all kinds of vitamins including vitamin d and the reduction of vitamin c etc....
They really need to look at what really constitutes a dangerous drug as at present, they are very confused!

Burnley v Blackburn- big punch ups loads of violence, alcohol fueled. If just 300 people had 4 pints each then the government got £460 out of it. Cannabis and Cocaine is not good for you I agree but solving this sort of crime is easy-peasy and good PR for the police to try and show they're doing something about crime.
Apart from the Government collecting from the misery of alcohol I would like you to just guess who's the big dealers of heroin in the North West??- well maybe we don't want to go there!!!!

I say a simple wee wee test for all. Nurses, doctors, footballers, lawyers, judges, MP's, your fellow workers..... lots and lots of people from all backgrounds use the stuff. (Cept me of course). Are these people actually persuading them to take it... I don't think so. I'm an adult and can make my own decisions in life. The tests will never take place as those 2 words that make every citizen shudder "Human Rights" will forbid it.
Lets bang them up- cost to the taxpayer £37000 each per year plus all the dependent payouts and the drugs issue will be solved. Job done. Duh

Here we go another drug gang caught! Do they actually consider the consequences of their actions and the impact it will have on their children? Am I right in thinking that Richard as 4 children- What a waste to never see them grow up into young adults - some peolple would do anything to have children and others waste that chance..... How proud must he be? Lets hope and pray that the lives and families he has destroyed by supplying drugs does not come back to haunt him through his children later on in life..... What goes around comes around??????????????
