A FLASHER who has targeted three women in a village, including sending obscene letters, is being hunted by police.

The man, in his 20s, exposed himself to a women while she was sitting in her house watching TV. He also posted hand-written notes to two other victims.

Details of the messages have not been released by police.

Former mayor Coun David Heginbotham said that the flasher, who struck first in Brownside Road, Worsthorne, ‘must be stopped’.

An investigation has now been launched by police into the three incidents, which began with the man exposing himself on October 16.

The victim was watching television at her home when the man struck in her front garden at around 9pm, exposing himself before fleeing.

The incident is being linked to the notes which were hand-delivered to properties in Brownside Road and nearby Brun Terrace four days later.

Police said that the ‘rude and obscene’ messages had caused concerned to female householders when they were discovered.

Coun Heginbotham, who represents Cliviger and Worsthorne, said: “This man needs catching and I know that police have issued a description of him.

“It appears that he walked away in the direction of Daisybank Crescent so it would seem that he’s a local man.”

“This is offensive and the man must be stopped. Some people might make a joke of this but it can really affect other people and leave them afraid of going out.”

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The man is believed to be in his 20s, of slim build, and around 5ft 8in tall.

“He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a black fleece top, which was hooded or he was wearing a beanie hat.

“It appears that on both occasions he has walked off in the direction of Daisybank Crescent, or a footpath towards Pike Hill.”

Coun Andrew Newhouse, who also represents the Cliviger and Worsthorne ward, confirmed that the incidents had been raised at a local police community action meeting in the village, at the Reading Room in Church Square.

“There have been a number of complaints made and I know police are on the lookout for this man,” he added.

Police have asked anyone in the Worsthorne or Pike Hill areas who may have information regarding the man to call the force’s non-emergency number on 101, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
