WHY doesn’t the EU, and the rest of the Olympic bidding countries, do the Greek nation and the sporting world a favour and take the Olympics back where they came from, Greece.

If every nation that wants to host the event and every nation that has representatives taking part were to pool their resources, the Greek economy could be saved by the building of the relevant stadiums and Accommodation.

Accommodation could be used as holiday lets, etc, and then, every four years, become accommodation for athletes.

Having the games in Greece would also virtually guarantee good weather.

I mean look at England? We have just had the tennis at Wimbledon affected by rain, the Open Golf affected by bad weather and cricket games rained off — and this is the height of the English summer. What sort of weather conditions we can expect for the Olympics in 2012 is anybody’s guess.

Another plus factor of having the games in the same place every four years is the cost of putting the games on and the real cost of the bidding wars that accompany winning the rights to have the games in a specific country. By all means let the TV companies bid for the rights to show the games, but let’s stop countries from nigh on bankrupting themselves just for the right to put the games on.
